heating engineer HELP PLEASE

Help please
My Mum has just rang me to see if i can help with the heating boiler
The problem is
when she switches the switch to hot water the rads come on and she can't get hot water in the taps
The boiler is a Myson Velaire oil
Will it be the timer switch box going wrong or something else ie valve not working

is there a 3 way valve somewhere in the system? That would be my first port of call

diverter valve if its a combi boiler

Sounds like it could be a fault with the diverter valve. Doesn't have to be a combi boiler.

Nope. Pretty sure he means heating engineer, as in Central Heating Engineer............

Would it make you happy if i put Plumber in front of heating engineer

my mum is 86 my dad is 90 and all they want is hot water so please don't rant over one word life is to short for that

Can the diverter valve be striped and cleaned / if so how do you do it

Mine sticks now and again, It has a lever on top, I just turn the power of and operate it manually backwards and forwards a couple of times. Seems to do the trick

It'll be the diverter valve. They're usually built into the boiler and not as big as the one shown (which is a zone valve).

Find the diverter valve. Give it a few taps, switch the boiler on and off, if all else fails call out a plumber

99% of the time these sx will be a stuck diverter valve though..... They're a common point to fail.

Mine (before going combi) wasn't built into the boiler. Shouldn't be too expensive to replace but unless you trust the ice pack systems will involve draining down the hot water tank & some of the radiator system.

mine did exactly the same it needed a new diverter valve cost about £45.00 and easy to fit once system had been drained down slightly

It may just be the motor on the actuator that needs replacing and not the whole valve......... Mines had about three new motors in the last 15 years but still on the original valve.
