Good morning...... I have a little problem with a clark little devil space heater. Its a few years old now but has served me well and worked well.
Problem now is suddenly it does not want to stay lit. I am sure there is enough gas in the bottle as in the past if the gas was running low the flame
would change colour and the bottle would make a different sound. Anyway, I hold down the gas button, press the ignitor and she lights up nicely and I
have a hot garage.
As soon as I take my finger off the gas button she goes out, no matter how long I have held the gas button down for. Any one have any idea's as
to what could cause this. I dont really want to buy a new heater as funds are bad enough at the mo for the car let along providing the car with a
heated place to stay. Any help and advice appreciated as usual........Andy
Yeh sounds like the thermo couple is shot. Having had the plumber out to look at our boiler last week to tell us we would need a new one. I did a bit
of reading and fixed it with a 7 quid bit from the local plumbers merchants. And I didnt have to touch the gas itself.
Its a safy valve that cuts the gas if the flame goes out. I would have thought your heater has one.
Is the end of the thermocouple in the flame? The pointy bit on the end of the thin copper wire needs to be in the heat source to keep the gas valve open. They do break down inside so you may need to replace it but universal ones are not too expensive.
that happen to mine, it was the thermo couple, till i got round to fixing it i put a ratchet strap around it.lol
Yup thermocouple. Mine was a wierd one that worked with a pizeo and the current generated operated a hold down solenoid. Universals were no good so I
bypassed it until I has a wee fright with the blasted thing overturning and flaring!
Its in the skip now
