holidaying in france part 2
daniel mason - 10/11/10 at 08:09 PM

following on from my post a few weeks ago regarding a holiday in france i would quite like 6 days on the south coast close to the beach and was wodering which region would be best in terms of value for money, not necessarily the cheapest but i wont be able to afford cannes, monaco etc. so anyone know of a nice coastal hotel which offers nice accomadation, food, surroundings, beaches?
then i thought about another 3 days roughly 3 hours north in order to shorten the return drive to calais, so again, a nice hotel, in a nice location hopefully still warm but obviously not coastal?
thanks in advance! dan..

La Brazilia, eurocamp yello village, Canet'sud
Fly Ryan air to Perpignon
It is on a beach, nice beach bar
Little road train to the main town/ beach or 20 min walk

Around La Rochelle.

I've just moved to the Vendee, 40 minutes from there. It's the second sunniest place in France. 6 1/2 hours to Calais.

You'd be surprised at some hotel prices in Cannes. Check out Late Rooms.com for some places, there are plenty at 40 - 50 quid a night for 2 people.

i have seen a few cheap-ish rooms in cannes available, but the cost of drinks and food seems ott in these areas!
is there many hotels in the area near the eurocamp campsite? it looks a great area

What time of year, theres my place in the Charente right next to the Vendee. Locosters rates if you go into Davefj's photos and look under France there are some snaps.
Cheers,
Bob

Sainte Maxime is great, close to St Tropez, Cannes etc but cheaper! Only ever stayed in villas with a bighorn group so not sure on hotel prices but a great spot!
Hth!

2nd vote for the Vendee, spent two very nice holidays at St Jean de Monts think thats how you spell it

I wouldn't bother Cannes myself. Been there quite a few times. Expensive, tacky and the beaches aren't up to much either.... I'd rather head into the midi-pyrenees. Some nice mountains, beaches, Millau viaduct etc etc....

Call round for a cuppa. I've got a spare bedroom.

Been there, done that!

It's a nice cottage WAAAAY out of any major town. Slight exaggeration - there's a nice town within easy driving range - but we are talking 'group of cottages in farmland' here. Lovely if you like walking and don't mind not being in easy walking distance of shops. Aldi is within easy driving distance, so no problem if you're organised.

You WILL require a car - but apart from that - great location.

If you come here, this is the place you HAVE to visit.
