Seeing as I can't seem to win anything on ebay these days (sniped at last minute) thought I would go ahead building me a big car port in the back
garden.
3.5x 2.5m with a plastic roof will do to keep things dry and a nice big area for the rampant grape vine in the greenhouse somewhere to stretch its
legs.
Q? Cheapest place for the frame? B&Q, Wickes or Travis & Perkins? Say that cause they all close by.
75x75 uprights with 75x50 frame on top to carry the polycarb covering.
Any idea's/advice?
Steve
Just bought some pressure treated 4x4, 4x2 and feather boards for fencing and the cheapest around here was Sydenhams by about 10% over the next cheapest which was Jewson. If you can find an actual saw mill they should be cheaper still. The nearest one to me was a little cheaper than Sydenhams, but outweighed by the extra fuel cost/hassle of a 50 mile round trip over a 6 mile round trip.
Try softwoodbargains.com, based near Selby.
Denis.
Travis Perkins is my favourite at the moment, don't use Wickes I bought some to make a gate and it shrank so much you can nearly get through the
gaps now. Use 50x50 steel for your uprights and get some tabs welded on to bolt your wood to for the top.

Try find a relatively close sawmills or something depending where in the country u are. Or an independsnt builders merchant. I usually go 2nd option as quite over half the price cheaper like for like. That's asuuming u have one nearish to you.
I found Jewsons to be quite cheap, especially if you're buying quite a lot. In my case I asked how much a particular piece of wood would cost, got the price, then asked how much discount I'd get if I bought 30 of them. The discount was impressive, as I'd moved from Joe Public territory to Bob The Builder prices. Delivery wasn't excessive either.

in leeds i use two timber yards; having compared prices in the past they are nearly identical on everything. Miles cheaper than B&Q shelf price but not much better than the new B&Q tradepoint prices. I despise jewsons on principle, i went in once for bucket and mortar and it was 4 times as expensive as b&q. I cant stand places like that.
