Right - here's one for the forum - someone must have some idea about this!

My wife wants an MP3 player - but not the usual personal stereo kind of thing, as she'll never want to use headphones. She just wants some practical way to wander round the house playing music based on her CD collection (without the CDs!). Not looking for Hi-Fi sound quality - just decent reproduction.

I have seen some Sony Hi-Fi systems where you can plug in a USB stick with MP3s on it - but she's looking for something more portable.

The obvious idea is to use an iPlayer of some sort on a base unit - but my PC uses Linux, which doesn't fit in with Apple's way of working. I also object to Apple's way of working! This is why I own a Sony Walkman MP3 player, as it behaves like a USB disk when I plug it in, so I can just copy files back and forth.

So - any ideas? Budget is probably around £100 or less, ideally.

I have a creative zen xfi wireless. Which is very good and sounds good with out headphones connected. You can run it the through your wireless network to stream songs from your pc.

I hate apple stuff too.

My friend has got one of these which he just puts a SD card into. There's loads of things like this out these ( search for 'SD boombox' ) and the sound quality from this one is not very good to be honest, but you get what you pay for I guess?

Just plug PC speakers (instead of headphones) into bog standard MP3 player?

Or must it be battery powered for portability?

Just had a special offer email throught for a portable rechargable Wifi Speaker, maybe a bit techy but looks quite good for the money.

I have a JB7, it is the easiest and most simple Jukebox ever, and has the advantage of sounding hi-fi.

The boombox is the sort of thing she wants - but that last one is UGLY! Looks like a radio got mated with a kettle...
