Freeview tuners
wicket - 14/1/12 at 11:33 AM

We are about to go digital here in the south east and I need to buy a couple of tuners, any recommendations. Don't want to spend to much as the TV's are only in the kitchen and bedroom.

When Freeview was new I bought a Sony VTX-D800U (and it cost about £150 at the time ) Amazon Linky and it's still the best Freeview box I've ever used - feels like a proper bit of kit and will pick up more channels than most other boxes in dodgy reception areas. You can get them now for about £25 second hand.

Apart from that they are all much of a muchness tbh unless you want an integrated recorder. I've got a £15 (Alba?) one in the garage and it does the job perfectly

All the cheap (sub £30) ones are the same in my experience. Just get whatever you find first!

I got a really small one from Aldi for £9.99 and it is rock solid on reception, brilliant little box.

After I got fed up with the old sagem i acquired at uni I bought one of these which was much better and doesnt draw 20watts the whole time liek the sagem did which if nothing else works out at about £20 a year off your electricity bill!
