They are likely to be MkVIII's the most advanced of the Merlin engined fighter Spits quite rare.

I thought that and these are likley to have nearly 0 flying hours on them but suppose it will be how the equivilant of the VOSA lot for Aviation see them . Fingers crosed they can find then and in a Usable form anyone got a shovel and some tickets to Burma we will sort the transport back out whien I have found them

so i would guess that they will just have the test hours which is likely to be unrecorded by now, unless the factory paperwork was left with the crates.

What a cracking project though. Uncovering 20 of the worlds best fighter planes, brand new and vintage!

Oo to think my Dad might have worked on them. He was an inspector on Merlins at RR in WW11.

In that case may I thank you and your Dad, on behalf of my late Father who flew a multitude of Merlin engined aircraft during the war.

Also, after the war my Dad had the chance to buy lots of Spitfires after the it all ended, he was offered as many as he wanted at £5 (YES FIVER) each. Problem was that he didn't have any money, had nowhere to store or keep them and in his own words, "Who wants them anyway, they are just old plains anyway". He did add that at the time of relating this story to me he was kicking himself for not having hind or fore sight. Oh if only....................

On a similar vein; an old boy that worked for me years ago told us how he used to race a gull wing Merc at Aintree back in the day. He sold it for £3K! Must be as sick as your Dad.
