The electricity meter in the GF's flat has suddenly showing a much higher usage than expected - 6.5 times more than the last 1/4
we can't see any reason why its gone up so much and she's always increadibly careful about switching everything off properly at the wall
(turns thing off all the time, it drives me nuts...)
so I'm suspecting the meter - anyone here dealt with e.on in similar circumstances / got any advice dealing with them ?
Cultivating anything in the back bedroom?
I'd go have a look at the wiring at the meter! If it's in a common area someone might have accidentally re-wired the block so their meter doesn't go round any more. Just a thought! The last 1/4 wasn't that cold, no way it should have gone up that much. Can E-on give you/her a comparison of this quarter gone with the same last year?
"doggy" meters.....! I'll say no more :-)

switching everything oof at the wall, you're not seeing my GF are you? drives me mental aswell. during christmas, i left the tree lights on,
they'd been on all day, hadn't caught fire that day or any other day, so they stayed on, she couldn't sleep because i'd left them
on... of course it was me that had to get up and turn them off...

Has she had problems with any appliances ? Years ago my sister had a similar problem with electricity, before privatisation so that's how long but she was getting through electric kettles like nothing, 3 in a year and the bill was stupid but the electricity board maintained there was nothing wrong. When the meter was changed as they do occasionally on a schedule she found it went to a more normal level and things stopped breaking.
^^ I've been round and turned everything off myself and the meter did stop so I don't think its got a major fault...
no problems with any applicances yet either
I did notice the fridge had the meter spinning when the compressor was running (for 30 secs max. at a time), but its a modern A+ rated fridge so I
don't think its responsible for a sudden ~500KWh increase

Meters, like anything else mechanical/electrical, do go wrong despite what poverty stricken (LOL) power providers will tell you - we were being charged about the amount a stately home would need - 'completely normal' they said, 'complete and utter b*llocks' I replied - new meter fitted, electricity bill mysteriously went down to under a half what it was before....... it costs them to replace the meters so they will tell you anything to try and avoid it and I'd imagine sadly a lot of people believe them!
