I advertised my car for sale on findit and on kit car mart last weekend. I have had a couple of replys asking for the usual quota of pictures etc... but i got this reply this morning - strikes me as not too genuine. What do you think?

Sounds a bit sus to me. Anyone using hotmail to conduct such business it dodgy in my mind.
Then again I can't see how any con would work.

got to say, sounds well dodgy to me, makes no reference to the actual vehicle, sounds like a template that could be sent to anything. and for some reason i am always suspicious of something like that with such bad spelling.

Well at least he hasnt said he's a nigerian prince who wants your bank account number.

Tell him you want a cheque which will have to clear or cash. He could be money laundering for the Russian mafia or something. There is a scam called the 419 advance payment scheme running at the moment where they offer to pay extra into your account and ask you to send back the difference to cover the transport as it's the only way for them to arrange shipping.

I had the same type of eMail when advertising the Rover. Chinese bloke eMailed me with almost the same type of enquiry.

I emailed back the price required with no additional details and I never heard from him again.

He was so keen as well

I Had the same a few months ago. A bloke wanting to buy my car for his 2 sons in amsterdam :-) . Every second work was spelt wrong. A few mail passed to a fro and he mention he used a shipper called komet shippers. I to smelt a rat so I did a search on google, it seems to have caught quite a few people out :-(

He/she then asks you to cash the cheque and send the goods along with the rest of the money to him via their courier/shipping agent who will come and pick it up.
DO NOT ENGAGE IN SUCH TRANSACTIONS! THIS IS FRAUD! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!



There was a news story that the cons had fleeced the yanks of thousands of four wheel drives that got paid for in forged bankdrafts. The forgers use originals with fake bank details. The buyer gave the seller the draft and got the car he took it to the bank who accepted it on face value only to be called later when batch processing rejected the draft as forged. Car gone with the buyer and seller left with a large headache and no motor!

Think that looks like a fraud report it to Trading Standards or polis they have means to deal with it.
