These flood are causing serious grief around here today. Getting progressively worse as well.

Tell me about it - my 17 year old son is stuck in Galashiels on his way home from RAF Cranwell where he was playing rubgy for Scotland and Northern Ireland. His bus driver gave up trying to find a clear route home shortly after they were turned back by police on the A69 near Hexham. Last I heard they were getting fish and chips and bunking down at an adventure centre.

Be safe!

Every river around here has rised way above the flood defences.the towns are like rivers and everyone's being evacuated. There's a few in our village affected but mainly it's just the roads.

Yeah it's terrible for those affected, I really feel for them. We're fortunate enough to live 95m above sea level with not much in the way of higher ground around us but even so it's extremely wet and windy. All three of our kids (21,19,17 years) are away from home tonight which isn't great but as far as we know they are all safe. I've got two dogs snuggled in beside me on the couch and I've just dried our two cats for the third time today and they're off upstairs to find a comfy bed to sleep on...

I hope things start to ease off soon down your way - how many "100 year" storms can we handle... :-/

We are staying indoors but are effectively cut off from the motorway had a couple of hours with no power and got my toasting fork out but Carlisle Keswick and Cockermouth have been pasted again. Not sure if I can make it to work tomorrow even with 4wd as it's not worth wrecking the car for a day!

but it's not all bad news:

Heavy rain and flooding caused water to tumble down Malham Cove in the Yorkshire Dales for "the first time in living memory".
