In my first place (many years ago) it was, new boss does a tour of the department just before xmas and then the next week gives 20% the push. So our xmas bonus was that we got to keep our jobs.

Were I am now is considerably different.

liam.mccaffrey - 21/12/06 at 05:23 PM

i think its really crap how some employers treat their staff.

Merry Christmas from me anyway

MkIndy7 - 21/12/06 at 05:27 PM

Everybody in our company bar the Service engineers got Xmas Dinner and the afternoon off on a barge!.....

Hmm, working for a rising sun company there are some words there I don't recognise.

'christmas' 'bonus' 'thank you' what do they mean.

Dinner means minging breath from seaweed and raw fish. Yummy...

smart51 - 21/12/06 at 06:16 PM

I got an email. [we need a sarcasm emoticon]

My last employer gave £50 in M&S vouchers and a bottle of wine at Christmas. I get a 15% higher salary here. Overall I'm better off.

fesycresy - 21/12/06 at 06:21 PM

My Christmas bonus came early, my MD fuct off to his villa a week early, left me a £250 bonus too.

I never did manage to give out all the Christmas goodies to the customers (some dull arse over ordered ) so I have a few bottles of Baileys, Smirnoff and a tin of Roses left over, plus the goodies given to me by my suppliers

hillbillyracer - 21/12/06 at 08:02 PM

I only work for a small garage but last year I got a boilersuit with £140 in it.
If it gets organised (and it sometimes doesnt) we go karting with the lads from another small place.

mistergrumpy - 21/12/06 at 08:15 PM

Never had a bonus or owt and, (roll on the Humbugs!) well you're there to work nowt else, especially not putting Christmas tree's up! That really grips my sh1t. As the name suggests MrGrumpy. Feel free to commence the abuse

Danozeman - 21/12/06 at 08:44 PM

DIY Si - 21/12/06 at 09:40 PM

I got a £5 credit voucher, and that's it. I don't even know how to use the bloody thing as it's some kind of bond! Merry Bloody Humbug to you all.

Moorron - 21/12/06 at 09:57 PM

well we knew we wasnt going to get anythink, we useally get a bottle of booze and a in work xmas dinner, but that didnt happen this year and to top it off my boss was sitting in one of the lads places in the office who was off on hols and could see me all the time.

Too top it off all he was doing was winging all day.

I had so many things to do on the shop floor! lol

MikeRJ - 21/12/06 at 10:00 PM

Christmas bonus: no
out to dinner: no (for first year ever)
Christmas card: no
A "thank you": By direct boss which doesn't really mean much as I'm his only report LOL

We all got given a very nice box of Chocs though, but being a stupid bugger I've left mine at work, debating wether to do the 60mile commute tommorow to get them (and also have a few network games with one of the IT lads who has been made redundant).

mistergrumpy - 21/12/06 at 10:08 PM

Waw there seems to be a lot of redundancies going round. I know the building game has been fairly quiet for a while too. Been kinda ignorant to it what with my last job but am seeing it now. My sympathies to anyone who's been punted I've had it once but never at Christmas.

matt.c - 21/12/06 at 10:17 PM

the boss said he could not afford anything for us this year

Yeh right! what happened about the last few years!!

Tight bar*ted!

At least i have a job

[Edited on 21/12/06 by matt.c]

graememk - 21/12/06 at 10:39 PM

You get nowt???? I suppose all those paid holidays don't count then? Better than any financial bonus! You don't know when you're well off you don't.... <ggggg>

gazza285 - 22/12/06 at 07:37 AM

I got nothing. It's the works do with free bar and food tonight, for employees and spouses. However as me and three others are currently on the nightshift of a 24hour cover we weren't invited and so far have not been offered anything instead.

bimbleuk - 22/12/06 at 08:43 AM

The last couple of years nowt! However just been taken over by another company so this year so...

Big box of Thornton choccies. No really I mean a big carboard box with boxes of Thornton choccies! So that most of my presents sorted

That was from the company. For my department we got a decent bottle of champers and £60 to spent on a Christmas lunch.

Isn't there some kind of tax bonus for allowed against staff entertianment ?

if so then someone should tell your boss

bonus - weeks pay
christmas card - yes
christmas lunch - later today (with free drink)
thankyou from boss - maybe later after a few drinks (going by last year)
free taxi home - possible

+thankyou form most major customers and suppliers for all our hard work and bussness (in the form of drink, sweets and biscuts mainly)

but... to counter this I've just been given two emergency rush jobs that hes known about for two weeks

At my first places it was always the start of the July shutdown and just before xmas. I think it was that they wouldn't have unhappy people around the site to long wating for their P45s as it may upset moral.

In my new place I can't really justify an xmas bonus as I'm now in the public sector, which means I would be paying my own bonus out of my taxes
