got a year 2000 transit with dual mass flywheel,the starter is playing up and the fella that went to get a new starter was told the prob was metal dust from the flywheel.
so does anyone know what happens to the flywheel ,does it explode into a giant fireball or just die quietly when you least expect it

the dust is from the rivets in the flywheel being ground away.usually acompanied by starter packing up,vibration on engine and worst case loss of drive. never seen one break in two but changed too many to count. we even get a warning in starter boxes with a new starter saying no warrenty unless flywheel is changed.
The flywheels are onto at least the 4th improved version but are still sh1t.
flywheel and bolts are 250 to300 quidish, you will also find the release brg is full of metal swarf aswell so add that to your list,

ok cheers,i see valeo do a "normal" flywheel and clutch kit,spose thats the way to go
is it a "pull" type or standard push release on them?

the official line is not to fit a solid flywheel as it can give problems with crank sensers and em systems, but some 2.0 fwd transits have them and run ok. i would think its worth a go as the dual mass flywheel is poor.
release brg is a standard push setup.
