hi i have an american import honda cmx450cc and needed to buy an exhaust but i could only get one from the usa with removable baffles ,but now i have it its too loude (its giving me a head ake andhurting my ears )so i needing to mod it im going to wield a washer on it but shoud i do it at the start or end of the baffel and how big should i make the whole in the washer (its 35mm at the moment).here is some pics so you know what im on about.

That wadding looks quite tightly packed - it fibreglass? A looser pack might help a bit. Also you can fit a 'decibel killer' on eBay which are quite effective.

a cone (with a hole at the tip say 20mm) at the end of the exhaust with the cone pointing inwards as that will reflect the noise back into the wadding, which by the way looks pish. You'd be better ditching that stupid thing, buying some rock wool and wrapping it round a chicken mesh tube. sorted

you'd want the cone ^^^ to be made of some metal with small holes in so it doesn't end up too restrictive.

Also if you are after a real locost alternative, an socket that is the right size does a great job as a cheap decibel killer, square hole closest to the end, it s a good temporary fix.

you should be wearing ear plugs whilst on the bike anyway

You might find this thread interesting, if you're planning to do your own mods.

I did it on my car's exhaust - I can't say whether it made it quieter, but it did change the note and it's definately less harsh on the ears.
