Front and rear tyres question.
panichat - 29/12/07 at 11:46 AM

I've got a new (old) car (Mk3 Golf) which had fat alloys and low profile tyres on.
It was a nightmare to drive - wandered all over the place. I had the tracking done it was way off but when corrected it still wandered if the road was at all cambered or uneven.
As an experiment I put the rear tyres on the front and the back on the front. Enormous difference. Why would this be?
The ones which were on the front had a V shaped pattern and a direction of rotation arrow. The ones which are now on the front have a conventional pattern and no direction of rotation markings.
Any answers?
Cheers
Dave

Are they all the same width?

All the same width and measurements.

Is it due to different tyre wear - possibly down to the tracking? The fronts will have worn badly on the inner / outer edges and the rears might feel better on the front if they have a more even wear rate.
