Celica GT4 WRC - 255bhp std and 4wd, TTs can get no where near them

Alez - 8/2/08 at 12:14 AM

MX-5 mk1 (£1k6) + flyingmiata supplied turbocharger conversion (£?) should come about right in price, 250 bhp, 1050 kg, great handling.

Tell him to torch his mates Audi, then he can buy something really cheap and spend the rest on something useful

I second it!! Used to own one. Cheap (in UK), strong engine, and easy to mod. Try the GT4OC website.

I'd love a Mazda RX7 myself. Still think its amongst the most beautiful cars on the road.

I know where there's a Mitsubishi GTO up for grabs, no idea bout BHP top speed or anything, looks the biz though.

mark.s - 8/2/08 at 08:19 AM

this should do the job and he's got enough left over to buy a starter kit from MK

Buy a run around and keep the performance car for weekends

If you drive it everyday you will spend a fortune on fuel, tyres servicing etc and get bored.

I did it once and never again. The fuel bill for a daily commute in an evo would pay to run a second car

Interestingly enough, I got bored of the opposite situation I got fed up of having to commute in a bl**dy Escort TD when I had such beauty as a 300 bhp per tonne Locost BEC sitting in the garage (which btw has very very low running costs).

My own conclusion, get a car just practical enough for you to use all the time + nice enough for it to put a smile on you every time = you will be smiling all the time!! (I was missing lost of smiles with the Locost because it didn't have any weather protection, for example.)

Two tricks for keeping costs down on a performance car:

-Choose one that gets it's performance through lightness not bhp.

-Choose one that gets it's bhp through a turbo, so that you have precise and instanteneous control over your monthly gas use.. right on your right foot!

Impreza!

You can pick the up from around £2.5k. A really nice mint UK car, even with just 208bhp - will wee all over a TT with more horses. I had one and my mates TT could not get near it for on speed or handling. Throw in a few goodies (zorst, air filter and a remap) and you can get 260+bhp no problem. Plus you get a wonderful flat four rumble!

If you are more brave, pick up an import, maybe an STI, and that will wee all over his TT (although it may well blow up)....!
