How much should i get the local engineering company to skim my standard 2.0 zetec (silvertop) by, that im re-building. 1 mm seems to be a common
number!?
As for the bolts what should i be looking to pay for the big end bolts, ive looked on burton as the "high" price mark and they came in at
£50, or am i just being tight?
Cheers

ARP con rod bolts for my vauxhall engine tend to be about £70
Raises an interesting debate. I don't consider myself an expert, but I'm not sure whether it's worth stumping up for ARPs unless you
plan to raise the redline or fit uprated conrods. A no-brainer in a bike engine (would you want them letting go at 12-14000 rpm?), but with an oem
redline?
I laboured over it for ages, as ARPs for my vauxhall were about the same as blakep82's, but the oems were less than a tenner a set.
What are your plans?
Edit: And you did mean .001mm, didn't you? 1mm seems rather a lot...

If you are going to be going for more than 7300 rpm on a regular basis I would say go for ARP (make sure they dont bind up and give false torque reading when fitting). I have my hard cut off set at 7200 as there is little point in reving past this. I've got standard bolts and have has no issues. The bolts will stretch due to high RPM rather than high power.
Since you are in Malvern I would recommend:
Don Loughlin Engineering
Unit 28, Hartlebury Trading Estate, Hartlebury, Kidderminster, Worcestershire DY10 4JB
Tel: 01299 250636
Don is an experienced engine builder. He has a large milling machine used just for head and block faces. The cutter diameter is big enough to machine
the width of a head in one pass. He will probably know how much to take off.
Also his charges are reasonable.
