Copper Fuel Pipe
Michael - 16/6/09 at 09:48 PM

Where is the best place to get 8mm O/D Copper Fuel Pipe?

I have tried my local factors, and my normal internet based suppliers but to no avail.

Thanks

B&Q or random plumbers supplies place.

cd.thomson - 16/6/09 at 09:50 PM

i got mine from screwfix

RoadkillUK - 16/6/09 at 09:51 PM

As he says ^^^ we got ours from B&Q, but you should get it cheaper at a plumbers merchants.

blakep82 - 16/6/09 at 09:53 PM

look for microbore pipe.

i'm looking at some sort of plastic pipe now. might still go rubber with stainless braid to start with.

thats not the point though, search for microbore and you'll find what you're after

Wickes, I fitted 10mm to mine as that was the only size available at the time from wickes

As above - its commonly used for central heating systems so any of the usual suspects in your area.

Just be careful bending it as it seems more prone to kinking - best you use tube benders with it rather than attempt to bend by hand.

And for info......pipe is measured ID. Tube is measured OD. There are a few exceptions......

And some plugs

I take it copper pipe doesn't have to be rated for fuel like the rubber ones then?

speedyxjs - 17/6/09 at 06:00 AM

^^^ No.

I tried to get mine from B&Q but they didnt have any 8mm. Ended up paying nearly £20 for 7.5m at my locoal motor factors

You can't get copper pipe rated for fuel as over a long period of time it's attacked by something in unleaded and can block injectors, that's one of the reasons it's not used in tin-tops (cost being the other).

It is however not going to leak which is what SVA/IVA rules are all about and they've been accepting it since day 1 of SVA. Preferable to rubber pipe in those hidden nooks and crannies of the tunnel.

Beware the prices go up and down even at screwfix. I suspect B&Q sell at a price that can absorb a fair amount of fluctuation.

Sulphur - some forms of which are found in lower-quality petrol in some countries (not in the UK, apparently). You end up with copper sulphate which blocks injectors and carb jets.

I have 8mm copper pipe in my car - and it does kink easily. I think they're making with thinner walls. My current plan is to replace it with large-bore kunifer next winter, as that's both tougher and less prone to cracking with vibration.

iank - 17/6/09 at 08:50 AM

Kunifer is a better alloy to use certainly, I thought it was harder to get in big bores but a quick look at ebay turns up this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/8MM-X-7-5MTR-CUPRO-NICKEL-KUNIFER-BRAKE-PIPE_W0QQitemZ360120168330

No idea what needs 8mm brake lines, quarry machines?

Same price, give or take, as speedyxjs paid, maybe that was also kunifer not pure copper...

StevenB - 17/6/09 at 12:20 PM

Got mine in B&Q.

And looking at using some of these guys to make the hose connections.

whats the ID of the brake pipe?

I'm expecting a larger wall and therefore less bore..... if not I think i'm going for that.

Michael - 17/6/09 at 08:34 PM

Thanks for all the replies i was surprised how quick it has gone onto two pages.
