ZX6 bike carb question.
ragindave - 1/7/09 at 06:33 AM

Have just installed a set of ZX6 carbs early model with out Tps onto a pinto.
Running well but the revs do not settle when you lift off the throttle tends to hang at about 2000rpm and settles very slowly back down to normal idle.
One thing I noticed when stripping the carbs there was no small spring sitting on top of the needles I wonder if this may have something to do with it any suggestions appreciated thanks

bike throttles have a return cable, have you fitted a spring to the throttle cam? to ensure they shut off.

I struggled with this adding extra springs on the return. Didn't do much at all.

It went away after they had been jetted properly and I suspect its the pilot circuit running a bit weak....

Now I have standard return spring and bike cable real slack at zero throttle.

I used an additional spring on the circular bit where the throttle cable attaches.

Not all bikes have a return cable, my bike only has an opening cable.

There should be springs between the diaphram and the lid of the carb and on the pulley that the throttle cable attaches to the carbs.

I read a thread on here by I think Flak Monkey and he was talking abour using the return cable being used but not going to the pedal but to a spring on top of the engine using a cable guide off a push bike, I like his idea and am going to put it into use when I fit my bandit carbs this weekend as I have been having exactly the same problem with my R1 carbs.

I bought a set of springs and tried a couple until the same problem was cured. Resulted in a stronger throttle pedal but brought the revs down faster.

Fitted the spring to the place where throttle cable attaches to carbs (ZZR1100). Was fiddly to get a good secure connection but possible if you perservere.

Spring added to retrun and a little better now.
I have the main diaphram spring but as mentioned before the tiny spring that sits on top of the needle between the small cup shape piece is not fitted it may be the case that this model of carbs did not have this spring and looking at the needles it looks like it has been dynojeted due to the extreme taper on the needle I know with this small spring fitted it gives the needle a small amount of float I have packed with a small washer to remove this float as with out the spring it probably wouldn not work to well.
So possibly G1 zx6 carbs should they have a spring or not?
Thanks for the help

I've got 3 sets of ZX6R carbs and there are no little springs on the needles of any of them. All have adjustable needles.

I've got some schematics of the carbs - if you u2u your email address I'll send them to you.
