RMarine - 10/7/09 at 06:57 PM

i have to buy an engine this week that comes from a pre 1992 car, i have found 2.
a 1.8 slivertop zetec (130ps) from an 1992 xr3i or a 2.0 I4 engine from a RS2000 mk5. the zetec is £225 and the I4 is £245.
Pros and Cons please........Thanks

Also, i have a set of gsxr600 bike carbs on the way with a zetec inlet manifold already attached (thanks to will121).

Personaly i would go for the zetec,i considered the rs2000 engine myself but was put off by the lack of tuning goodies available.
Someone is going to prove wrong in a moment or two though

i think you would be wise to go for the zetec, however ide chose the rs2000 engine, if only to be a little different.

hi, the carbs are zx9r carbs, think the RS2000 engine is different engine and inlet manifold dimentions, and more info and tuning equ for the silvertop

The other advantage the zetec has is that if you trash it you can buy another for next to nowt.

looks like the Zetec is winning!!!

The zetec manifold will not fit the Rs engine.

The Rs engine is a a 16v version of the Sierra 2.0 Dohc engine.

If You can get the standard inlet and ecu complete with loom its a cheap and easy 150bhp. That said there are no real tuning bits for rwd and its a tall heavy engine and parts are very expensive..

The 1.8 zetec with the carbs will give the same 150bhp, its also a cheap well proven path.
