ok, so if my fuel pump isn't below my tank, will i have trouble with air locks?
will gravity help get fuel to the pump ok? will a fuel pump pump the air out the way til fuel gets to it?

the pump's inlet is not much higher than the outlet for the tank, about 4-5" perhaps

tank mount and pump brackets etc have been there since before i bought it so i know they worked where they were

shouldnt have trouble with air locks as long as the air has somewhere to get to, ie back into the tank.

gravity will feed the pump as long as the fuel in the pump has got somewhere to go, ie no back pressure.

and the pump will probably have some suck to it so will clear the air out of the pipe between the tank and pump.

I've had troubles with my pump. I'm relocating it at the same height as the tank outlet this week. The problems I had basically were that the fuell drained back to the tank and I had to prime it before each journey (If it had been sat for a day or 2).

Edit to say that the pump is currently on the engine cradle.

thanks luke, hopefully you're right! anywhere else i can move it to, then gets into problems with the issue of bolts and stuff pointing at the fuel tank

mark, my pump is next to the tank, so shouldn't drain too far back.fingers crossed

Gravity? makes apples fall but may be a problem with some pumps as some have more lift and some have more suction . So may depend on the spec of your pump.

i was thinking gravity, like if you've got the weight of the fuel in the tank, and a tube connected to the bottom, how far will the fuel travel up the pipe. to the same height as the fuel in the tank i think, but if the pump is able to suck the last bit out it should be fine

My R1 pump seems absolutely fine - its inlet/outlet is approx 3-4" above the outlet of the fuel tank, at the back of the car. It takes a few seconds to prime if left for a day or so.
