My calipers need some attention becuase there sticking (see link below) however at the same time it might be the time to venture in to the vented or non vented topic as few have mentioned that i might be better off with with solids rather than the vents i currently have due to the weight of the car?

Main use is heavy road driving, but also some lighter 'motorway' type miles and about two-three trackdays a year.

Vented disks are pointless on a lightweight car. There aim is to increase cooling of the disk to reduce fade - pretty counter-productive on most se7ens as you will more likely struggle to get any real heat into them.

Just extra unsprung weight for no gain imho

Same opinion here - pointless and heavy.

Seems to be the over general consensus. I guess the real question is not which is better but if its worth putting effort converting to solids from vented.
- If i did get some solid disks, would i just get plan ones, or is there any point in any grooving?

Then i would either be able to change the calipers if i get mine recon'ed or replaced. Or take out the spacers if do an overhault and do the seals on them myself.

I had this conversation at great lengths with a coupe of racers where I was working and a guy who worked for AP as my car uses 286mm vented front discs. Basically the outcome was if you're running a BEC then no way at all do you want vented but if running a CEC then its fine to run vented its just important to get the right combo of discs/pads. The AP guy said get decent discs and cheap pads as a start point and work from there, if the pads do overheat then get better ones. The cheaper pads suffer from heat problems more but this can be used by people in our position to get extra heat into the brakes.

Sounds fair enough, i dont know the history of the disks/car but it sounds like its not totally outragious to have vented disks. I currently have some greenstuff pads on but only because someone on here gave me a pair while i was having another job sorted as the others where getting low. They seam to work ok for now other than the fact the caliper sticks a little.
