
We have had an oil leak from the sump on our duratec and have finally got around to removing it to investigate.
Prior to removal we noticed a regular build up of oil around the 2 rear-most bolts - the long ones and as these were removed a considerable amount of
oil came down the shank of each bolt.
Poking a thin screwdriver up the threaded hole in the block where these bolts locate indicates that perhaps these threads are 'open' at the
top, ie NOT blind holes. Therefore oil can pass down the hole, past the thread and down the shank of the bolt.
Can anyone confirm if this is the case? If so how to combat it? sealant on the thread? We did loctite them in the first instance.
Silicone sealant on the bottom half of the thread, the stuff that's sold in motor factors that's oil resistant?
