Powerspeed exhaust on the Phoenix
jeffw - 23/12/10 at 05:29 PM

Picked my car up today from Powerspeed in Ashford who have built a Stainless full system for it. The system was then coated by Zircotec. Drove it back home today....and it sounds awesome

that looks awesome! remap again now?

jeffw - 23/12/10 at 05:36 PM

Certainly it will need the map tweeking....

Hi Jeff

Do you mind me asking how much the coating was?

jeffw - 23/12/10 at 05:41 PM

Given how embroiled I get in discussions round here with prices I'll PM you....

Ta muchly!

Is the collector welded to the can? How does the collector stay on the primaries?

jeffw - 23/12/10 at 06:08 PM

The collector is welded to the end cap of the silencer. The primaries stay in the collector because the silencer mounting and the engine restrict any movement plus the primaries are a tight fit. I hadn't really thought about it to be honest.

As said before, Looks good Jeff... it'll put lots of smiles on i should think

mangogrooveworkshop - 23/12/10 at 06:38 PM

I would wash it down with hot soapy water to preserve the nice finnish cause the salt will soon make a mess of that

jeffw - 23/12/10 at 06:51 PM

It is ceramic coated, not painted. I would hope the salt wouldn't have any effect.

Jeff,

Looks really good but I have a quick question, if I may?

Sylvas of this style (Fury, Pheonix, Stylus) are semi-prone to setting their side pods alight if there's too much heat in there... As the coating will (I assume) make the pipes cooler, this will probably make the silencer hotter and increasing this risk?

Have you considered what you're going to do in order to try and keep the heat inside the pod down?

Stephen

Certainly the sidepods get hot on this type of car but I'm not aware of any one catching fire. The Pod itself is open at the front and back as well as having a large hole underneath and heatshielding all the way along. The reason the coating was done as it is was that the silencer is actually packed full of insulation so the can will not get any hotter than in a standard setup and the primaries/collector will be a lot cooler. Zircotec quote a reducing of around 50 deg C. Powerspeed and I had a discussion about this and we think the silencer material will degrade faster than normal so something like 5K miles rather than 10K for their normal system. They do have a higher temperature insulation material if necessary so we will suck it and see.

Time will tell if this works out but it makes sense to me.

What is it designed for power wise? More top end? Or more all round? its hard to tell from the pics..... thats a tasty motor you've got in there now.

jeffw - 24/12/10 at 06:02 AM

It is designed as a 4-1 screamer so more top end. I could have had a 4-2-1 for more torque but it is already producing 185 ft-lb so I went for the top end. Hopefully this will lift it from 205 upto 220 or so. It was the next step in the progression as there was no point changing the pistons/rods and fitting very high lift cams with the exhaust that was on there.

jeffw - 24/12/10 at 06:14 AM

This was the system before it was coated

And this is my friend Nash's 4-2-1 on a Zetec being done at the same time.

And this was the inspiration for the colour choice
