Duratec auto to manual
Nitrogeno25 - 23/2/11 at 12:14 AM

I can get a pretty good deal on a Duratec Focus auto.

I know I have to change flywheel and add pressure plate and clutch.

I don't know if the starter work on the new flywheel...

Also I read somewhere that automatics duratecs are less powerful with a differente profile cam??

Thank you very much!

Nope they are all the same.

Theres 2 different starter specs and 2 different flywheel diameters to match. They are only about 5mm different, but enough to cause it to bind or not mesh properly.

The ST150 flywheel is slightly smaller than the standard dual mass. Most aftermarkets are the same as the standard dual mass.

So if you go down the ST150 flywheel route you will need a start off one of those too.

You will also need to fit a bearing in the end of the crank for the gearbox input shaft to engage with. Perhaps someone out there knows the part number??

You can get the bearing and most of the other bits from Retro Ford

Pinto spigot bearing will fit

Thank you very much.

I already get the spigot bearing.

Flak, I read a reply from you that the starter can be modify to fit, 5mm in flywheel diameter means the starter should be 2.5mm closer...

Yes I modified a standard mondeo one to work with the ST flywheel. Just skim a bit off the mounting face on the starter. Not a big job if you have a milling machine.
