Does it matter which way a bike fuel pump is mounted? Anyone know how its mounted on the bike? ZX9R

On the ZX9 it's mounted under the fuel tank and looks from the Haynes manual to lie across the bike, right to left if you get what I mean.

Horizontal it is then.. Cheers
