k seriers 16v piston change help without removing crank

Hello all. As above really, need to change no 1 piston on a 214i. Can it be done in the car without removing the crank etc?

Yes it's possible, you'll need to remove the sump and cylinder head though, then simply remove the conrod bolts, split the big end of the conrod and push the piston/rod upwards out of the block.

make sure you clamp the linears. You dont wont to un-seat one when pulling the piston.

How do you know that you need a piston? I have heard a few rumors of head gasket failure on these engines!

If there is any signs of water having been in the cylinder due to head gasket or the inlet manifold gasket leaking then check the height of the piston before removing. Be warned the con rod can and does bend due to hydraulic lock

Thats stupid! Are the liners easy to change i be they come out through the freaking bottom dont they!?

I think that would be rather difficult, given that the head clamps them down!
