Hi I am rebuilding a 1300 cross flow

What is the best oil to use after a complete rebuild
When the crossflow 1st came out castrol gtx was the recommended oil
I know you can still get gtx but is there a better oil to use

When I rebuilt mine I used a cheap 20/50 for the first 500 miles then changed to Valvoline 20/50 . Not a good idea to use synthetic in a Xflow IMHO

PS , If you haven't already fitted one use a competition sump gasket set from Burtons as the original cork type will leak like a sieve.

With an xflo it is essential to use a highly detergent oil, as they produce copious amounts of sludge, 10w/40 semi-synthetic.

Avoid GTX

The book says 10W40, but many people (including me) use 20W50. The advantage of the lighter grade is that you stand a better chance of starting with a tired battery on a cold morning! My car lives in a garage and has a maintenance charger plugged in while it's in there.

As above - don't go for fancy synthetics, especially when running in the engine - don't know about semi-synthetic (I bet most modern oils are semi- these days, even if labelled as 'classic engine' oil).

20w50 = more oil pressure and was recomended when new
