Duratec Hydraulic Clutch - Which Master Cylinder
FuryRebuild - 2/6/12 at 08:19 AM

Morning Friends

I have a hydraulic clutch conversion for my duratec to pinto as supplied by rwd - the slave looks like this:

Any advice on which master cyclinder is appropriate - my obp pedal box takes standard size lucas girling master cylinders.

Thanks
Mark

SAAB 900 the original application for that cylinder used a 0.625 master but it probably had a longer stroke than your pedal box will give.

So, greater bore = less travel for more effort (as in, can push more fluid for less distance)?

Yep,
0.75" masters are very cheap new (Land-Rover clutch masters)

For a 0.625" you will find Marina or Triumph new old stock clutch masters on eBay
0.7" shows up quite cheaply on an ebay search.

Girling and Lockheed cylinders of this period were interchangeable as they had the same bolt spacing fitting

i went through all this with my duratec. I found that the .75" was far too big (this is in my mgb), and that even a .7 is still rather large. I think i have a very long stroke in my car.

Hmmm. This is going to be interesting with my updated organic clutch and uprated ap cover as well. Bearing in mind the car is also to go on the road a slightly longer travel may be useful. The flywheel is down to 3.5 kg so a little bit of travel may be useful. If it was a switch only and needing bags of revs to get it off the line could mean its going to be a bit embarrassing around town.

what size did you go for in the end?
is that the mondeo v6 slave? do you know the part number?

Thanks

Wow a thread from the dead.

I went for a .625 - with an ap clutch in there, anything else would have meant it had shorter travel and wouldn't be much use on the road.

The part number is S4MZG
