Hi all,

In the process of changing the cambelt on the race car engine (2.0 pinto) and have noticed what seems to be a redundant roll pin between the two bolts on the tensioner. What is the purpose of this, is it a legacy of the tensioner once having a spring and therefore can I remove it?!

I have this on mine which is a manual tensioner too. I wasn't aware the older engines had sprung tensioners and thought they were always manual.

That sais, I am not sure waht the roll pin is for and am no where near car or workshop at present. Perhaps it it to provide a surface to lever agaisnt to tension the belt? Don't remember ever using it myself as I tend to lever on the underside of the plate.

Was for a spring but never provided enough tension so everyone sets tent ion with the 90 degree twist method and does the pivot and locking nuts up tight
The new belts don't stretch like the early Cortina ones did

yep , had this on mine with the tension spring, did away with the lot and just use the 2 bolts. Its been fine.
