X-Flow fueling
danfrith - 2/1/06 at 06:50 PM

I am running a 1600 x-flow engine that is in decent nick - currently still on 4*.

The car should be going for its SVA in the next 3 months.

Has anyone any advice on unleaded conversion on on using additives with unleaded.

At the moment I'm using an additive with mine , but I intend fitting a modified head complete with unleaded valve seats as I'm not sure of long term protection with additives and want to change while head is still OK as old unit

It's swings and roundabouts really. I thought I wouldn't do enough miles to warrant an unleaded head and have been using Millers VSP. I'm always saying I'll change the x-flow but all I've done is change from a 1300 to a 1600 - it justs looks right in the bay...

Cheers

it cost me £110 to have the head converted to lead free -- did it as part of complete engine rebuild

Other than the valve seats does the timing have to be altered at all.

Yes, it must be retarded quite a lot if you're planning to use plain old unleaded.

No, if you plan to use super unleaded, or Optimax (as I do). In fact, I've advanced my timing a couple of degrees with Optimax! (now at 12 BTDC, instead of the book 10 degrees)
