
Can we have a list of cars and which engines/gearboxs that will acutally fit into a standard locost cassis? everything i have found or got is either
way too big size wise or is frount wheel drive.
any help would be welcomed

Most Ford fwd engines turned 90 and mated too a ford box.....
But the jap engines all slot in, around 1000cc and pretty potent.

Chrysler Avenger/Sunbeam
Triumph 1300 & 1500
Anything Ford with 4 cylinders from the 1172cc sidevalve to Duratec.
various Toyotas
Hyundai Stella
Lotus-Ford Twincam
most 4 cylinder Vauxhall-Opel engines
Don't forget the Nissan SR20DET 


Mind you, a bit tall if you don't want a bonnet bulge - but then no taller than a Pinto boat anchor....

Then again, it depends what you mean by standard chassis.
It's customary to build your transmission tunnel around your particular choice of transmission.
Have you bought a chassis ready made?
If so what was it made to fit? Can you ask the builder?
So far as I know, if it's book standard then you'd better be prepared to make some mods for anything bigger than a MK2 escort gearbox up the
transmission tunnel.
EDIT: But I stand to be corrected on that!

Choose your ideal engine first (doesn't matter if FWD or RWD) then measure up and see if it will fit the engine bay.
If so then I'm sure the collective around here can help you figure out how to get it to fit a suitable RWD driveline...
BTW, pretty much any of the Inline 4 Engines from a mainstream manufacturer will fit....
after all the batting ive done for my side , nobody mentioned the volvo engine , which ive had in a book chassis .
I have just had a vision of putting a Humber Hawk engine in a Locost -- love to go trialing with that.

Aahh... errm...... it was a serious question !
I've obviously not read enough posts !

now ive got some attention !!
240/740/940 will donate a full running gear .
the later fwd cars can , with an adapterplate @£145 be converted to rwd .
dont let that fool you tho - the redblock volvo engine is as strong as they come , albeit heavy (like a pinto) .
the advantage i see , is that they come with a manual rwd box , axle etc which can be tuned quite easily .
or Fiat.
i built my car for a 1.3 mg engine. lets just say it a little bit more terminal than i thought.
