Sorry - no spare pinto.

But mushroom adaptors!!!!! Where di dthat idea come from. How do you fit a second bolt?
Seeing as OEM shockers are nipped in place by the upright i hardly see how they can fail a 7 for using the same fixing method.

Do they want you to fit second pinch bolt or drill and tap into the main body and fit something like a large grub screw as a secondary fixing?

Sounds mad to me.

Surely that will weaken the upright. The pinch bolt acts by pulling material around the main body of the upright. Drilling through it then adding a bolt (which will not only tighten down onto the mushroom but also add an equal but opposite force) would surely weaken its structure.

I may be wrong and stand to be corrected. M6 wont weaken as much as M12 etc.

I dont see how the mushroom adaptor is doing anything different to a standard Sierra shocker.

Sounds like you have grounds for a serious discussion on this one with a more senior VOSA bod.

i looked for a block on ebay to apologise for the hijack. Nothing stood out on quick inspection.

i spoke to dean at luego about this mushroom and he drills a hole and taps it and uses a grub screw any

That is just blinkin daft.

The balljoint only has a single nut holding it on too.... are they going to ban them aswell?

Is there not another SVA station you can take your cars too? Thats just stupid. Tell them to clarify this in writing from head office..... or write ti the head office to complain...i would! If you do that for the mushroom then that means all other bolts need doing. Stoopid!!

Guinness - 8/9/06 at 06:34 PM

hang on a minute, isn't this at beverley, the sva station that must have passed loads of mk's and mac1's which have this exact arrangement?

WTF is going on!

Hmm.. I can see the SVA mans point.
Doesnt the Ford Shock / leg have a thin plate that sits in the gap and the bolt passes through it, thus securing it in place.

SVA man passed my mushrooms just clamped in.

As for the Ball joints they must have either nyloc's or a castellated nut and split pin. ie not just a nut on its own. Spring washers are not acceptable either.
