Just been and collected my christmas prezzie to myself
Had Scholar engines rebuild the bottom end of my Pinto as a 2.1, forged pistons(apparently not forged!), lightened flywheel, ARP bolts, the whole lot
balanced
A bit more expensive than I had hoped but... It's Christmas
Guess I better get my finger out and finish the Head so i can fit it

Sounds like a bargain to me. I was quoted from £500 to build myself up to approx £650 all built up but using std V6 pistons (inc gaskets sets, oil
pump etc).
Im surprised you got it built with forged pistons and ARP for that price. Did they use forged V6 pistons or smaller ones with offset ground crank?
Block decked?
Sounds like youve done well from a company that probs has decent overheads to cover. My prices were from smaller places with labour costed at cash
etc.
They charged me £200 for the Pistons but that does seem to have included the rings...
(maybe they haven't fitted forged ones - how can i tell?)

well - tbh if they a cast that's fine - I'm not going to be racing it - just the odd track day - so i am sure they are well up to the job
Std V6 pistons were quoted at approx £40 each inc rings to me. £200 sounds like something better than the norm but perhaps not what we would know as forged. Im no expert. If forged were specced and invoiced then im sure they will be in there. Maybe they had a set in stock that needed to be shifted.
will have a looky at the invoice when i get home.
To their credit I must say they are very friendly up there and when given the opportunity to charge me more they offered advice instead...
For instance when asking about uprated head gaskets they advised me, based on my build, not to waste my money!
turn around was 3 weeks and they have been very helpful throughout. i could have saved myself about £150 or so by rebuilding it myself but - I
wouldn't have done as good a job and certainly wouldn't have been able to balance the whols shebang......

Warranty would be an issue if you assembled it yourself as well. I reckon you got a good dela and a good tuenaround bearing in mind it is a well known
and reputable company. If you ever decide to sell it the name will add a few quid to resale price as well.
As you say you dont need forged pistons so if that is just a little oversight / typing error then nothing lost.
Iam jealous - youve done what i was fancying for mine. Keep us posted please?
What else you got in mind. Bike carbs, megajolt???
Im replacing tired bottom end with low miler std. Flywheel is lightened. Head reworked previously with FR32. Just fitted vernier cam wheel this time.
Im planning megajolt first. When running OK fit the ZZR1100 carbs. Just got lambda set up off SurreyDave to help with tuning.
Its exciting isnt it???? These little mods keep the project alive.

I have a Kent FR33 Cam kit waiting to be fitted and am awaiting delivery of my GSXR 1000 throttle bodies, I am also going to fit a megasquirt ecu

I found that Scholar's prices are very reasonable for parts - I've bought several sets of crank bearings from them, plus sevral other bits
and bobs. Brand names and almost half Burton's prices. What they don't have in stock they can usually get by the next day.

Good guys we could've spent the whole day there 2 saturdays ago. Mark (calvinx) was in his element and drooling at the setup they had. Told him he was getting a mention on here and he was well chuffed.
