how much dose a pinto head gaket squish by
with std bolts,the std gasket thickness is 1.3mm,would anyone know how much it squishes by???

Just measured (micrometer) the gasket I took out the other day - 0.050 to 0.051 inch. New one is 0.055 to 0.057 inch
Measured metal lip around the bores.
0.050 is 1.27 mm
0.056 is 1.42 mm

Standard gasket is 1.62 crushed
Felpro blue or Adjusa are 1mm crushed
Cometic do (in inches)
0.026, 0.030, 0.035, 0.040, 0.045, 0.051,
0.060, 0.065, 0.071, 0.074, 0.120

Does it really matter? As above, the differences are negligable. I never understand why people waste time trying to find this stuff out - Or maybe

err , squish and compression ratio .
get the squish dimension wrong and when the con rods elongate at higher rpm , pistons hit the head .
squish is one of the most important factors along with plug position on combustion chamber design .
As mentioned above measure your deck height , then choose the appropriate gasket from cometic .

what i am doing is makeing the cr lower for a turbo,so i need a thick head gasket

Most people doing this would use a precision decompression plate????

no most people would use cossie rods pistons to lower it,or start with a low cr block witch i have but i am slowly rebuilding it,with cossie rod and

plate that is 1mm thick and was going to use 2 head gaskets,to get it around 8.5:1,i know this is a bodge its just untill i get the other engine up
and running,but as im only going to start low 12psi max, then with my new engine i will put the boost up higher.

volvo produced a kit to turbocharge carbed models - they used two headgaskets - the only service change was to re torque the head bolts every 6k .
headgasket wants to be the weak link - if not its usually the pistons /rods , so for a start off its not a bad idea .
In an ideal world youd fit Low compression pistons - so you get the squish/deck height ( which has more to do with preventing detonation) perfectly
right for teh rods/pistons you have installed .
theoretically , this is the engine you could run the most ignition advance with .
