Silencer for turbo engine
Hi everybody
I need some advice please.
Im going to be needing a new silencer for my new engine soon.
My exhaust is going to be 3" o/d from the turbo back.
Now my question is how big should the o/d of the can be? Considering that there will be a 3" hole down the middle.
And how long?
I understand that the turbo acts as a silencer and i want it to be quiet enough to pass even the quiet track day noise limits but i dont want it too
quiet

you want one as large as possible, something around 8" if possible. When you run an S14 with a single box system they are very loud, and they
have a lot longer run of exhaust than you can possibly get on a 7.

Didn't think you needed a big exhaust / silencer with a turbo because the turbo acted as one....

I would just use a big 3~4" pipe off the turbo with a slash cut.. whoosh!

I run a cherrybomb (3" pipe) on my ca18det powered Dutton. Its pretty quiet. Unless your running a HUGE turbo they do help with noise.

i found on my car that the turbo itself acted as a silencer so i just fitted sports cat-no silencer at all. Passed sva on 98db

I have been trying to work this out as well. I am using a 2.3 ford lima factory turbo (T3). With just 18 straight pipe it was way to loud. I think I
will be going with a staight through magnaflow muffler and a cherry bomb on the end as a resonator. It really should be 3 inch all the way but I
think I am going 2.5 as I really dont think I am going to push the motor that hard so 250 hp should be not held back too much at 2.5 inches.

Thanks
