identifying diff
where is the diff type stamp located on the diff? been looking yesterday cant see anything

If it's a sierra one there should be a metal tag held in place by one of the backplate bolts.

Whick may well have broken off
So work the ratio out by turning the input shaft and counting turns of the driveshafts, or vica versa if its easier

Yep, turn the output shaft one full turn.
The input shaft should go 3 turns and a bit.
If the bit is pointing to 1 o'clock its a 3.14
About 3 o'clock is a 3.38
7 o'clock is 3.62 and getting on for 10 o'clock is a 3.92
Or if you've got the back cover off the ratio will be on the crownwheel.
