Hosepipe Ban
I was talking to someone about the hosepipe ban the other day who told me that their dad had secretly been filling his watering can with one in the
back of the garage so that he could wash his car and avoid tramping through the house.
I explained that this would be allowed as there's no water wastage, the hose was just used as an extension of the tap but they preferred to keep
hiding in the garage.
Anyway it got me thinking. The ban doesn't apply to businesses so how hard would it be for me to set up a business in my name, washing cars? Is
there any money involved or can I just paint a sign for the garden then charge something like £600 a car to keep people away and then use my hosepipe
to wash my car and perhaps all two of my mates cars too

How about not washing your car for a bit (it'll probably survive!) and saving some water!

How about a rebate on my bills for the constant interruptions and dirty water, or on you guys' bills when you aren't allowed to use what
you're paying for?

I pay 300 quid a year to use my water so makes no odds to me. if they give me a rebate then ill stop using it.
Cruelty to plants and all that if they dont get water,.

I couldnt go a week without washing my car. We dont have a hose pipe ban down here though so your welcome to come down and use mine

It's the principle of the matter.
1. I'm paying for something that I can't use as I wish
2. It's done nowt but lash down with rain this Summer
3. United Utilities want to fix some of the leaks they have in their antiquated system. They took on the job knowing the drains were knackered.
4. Whenever they've done roadworks involving breaking into water pipes they've always been happy to run the clean treated water that costs
loads to treat, down the next drain and have to re clean it all!
Speedy. Would you be willing to post? I can't afford the petrol to get down there as they've put the price up on that too

What do you guys do with your water, or is it just a case of the water companies being horrendously incompetent in their management.
I can't ever remember there being a ban up here.

ironic isn't it.
done here in the sunny south we have had no rain for over a month (apart from 1 day last week) yet I am yet to hear of a hose pipe ban whereas you
northen monkeys get nothing but rain and have a ban.
seem fair to me. 
I can post you a couple of litres but to save on postage costs it would be dehydrated water.

If you are posting water then its probably best to freeze it first. We all know Ice floats on water, so when you take it to the post office the scales
should show less weight so the postage price will be cheaper. Then when its at the destination just re-melt it.

The issue is storage more than rainfall.
In the north it's all in reservoirs, quick to fill, quick to empty. In the south it's stored in porous rocks, takes forever to
'fill' but lasts longer.
Upshot is in the North when it's dry water restrictions start earlier and stop quickly after some rain. In the South restrictions take longer
to kick in but when they do they're around for a lot longer.
As for cars, mine get a wash every six months if they need it AND I can be bothered

No hosepipe ban in south Suffolk - officially the driest part of the UK. Reservoir levels also reasonably high.

Or even better split the water into hydrogen and oxygen, pressurise the oxygen into cylinders and float it around under big hydrogen balloons. When
you get to the other end just burn them together to make water (and lots of heat).

I think thats just your personal little cloud that follows you around, Mr Grumpy!
Before this last a week of poor weather, we had a poor week at the begining of May and thats about it since the begining of APRIL. Of course
there's been the odd wet day but this has been the dryest spring/summer for years.

I'm doing my bit to save water - I have been putting 1 less ice cube in my JD and coke
And I wash my car at least once a year (whether it needs it or not ) - it's allready been done this year , so a hose ban wont effect
me................

Hose pipe ban! Pah, I only get a drizzle from the tap anyway. Not enough to power a simple sprinkler.
An wealthy Ex of mine had a very large pond/very small lake in her huge back yard. It wasn't there one day so her dad said, then over the
period of a week it appeared and has been there twenty years now. He thinks its a leaky pipe feeding it. A twenty year leak!

Even better - convert it to steam and just blow it in his direction.
It'll get there eventually...
