Rs2000 steering rack
I seem to recall that there was a discussion (can't find it now) regarding the threads or bj tapers on these racks being differrent from the
usual MK1 and Mk2 std racks. Can anyone help with the info.

I think the outcome was that the tapers on the track rods are different. Which isnt that much of a problem as you can just fit normal escort ones.
I also seem to remember that the threads on the track rods are 1/2"UNF as on the Mk1 escort, not M14 as on the Mk2 escort.
If you put Mk1 TREs on it should be ok.
Someone will no doubt come along and put me right

not sure what my rack is off but it certainly looks like an escort rack. it is a quick rack with UNF threads and the TREs appear to be wrong for my
cortina uprights

Both the tapers and the theads don't mix MK1 to Mk2 Escort in the non-RS models.
Both MK1 & MK2 RS2000 used some front end parts inherited from the Capri and Corsair/Cortina MK2 1600e hence the UNF spec steering parts were
retained on the RS2000.
All Mk1 Escorts used UNF threads on the track rod ends. In other places on the Mk1 Escort metric gradually replaced some UNF and UNC threads from
about 1972 to the end of production.

Dunno!!!
You need Escort RS2000 or MK1 escort ones to fit the trackrod threads, and MK2 escort "normal" trackrod ends to fit the cortina
uprights!
Don't get an RS rack basically, either that or cut the trackrods down a bit and make female to male adaptors to go from 1/2" unf to M14 x
2 thread and then use std MK2 escy trackrod ends.

yup £79...
really would prefer not to have to buy a second quick rack though
Does anyone know if you can buy MK1 UNF TREs but with a MK2 ball joint Taper ? (just emailed same question to Rallydesign so fingers crossed!)

The Cortina MK3-5 were the bigest taper around on cars at the time I suspect the only 1/2" UNF thread track rod ends that will come close are
those of the Triumph 2000/2500 without power steering -- think the TR6 track rod end might be the same part as the 2000.

I meant to add Cortina Mk3 to 5 track rods fit the Escort Mk1 rack ---- easy way to convert a Mk1 Escort rack rack to a Mk2
