Fireblade gearbox woes :-( Advice?
My Fireblade engine has started jumping out of 4th gear , mainly under load.
Question is, what's the chance of it being anything else other than the gears/dogs?
Reason being is that, in theory at least, you can strip most other bits (selector drum, forks, cam etc) from either the sump or clutch openings
without splitting the engine, ie. again in theory, without taking the engine out, which through choice I want to avoid.
If on the other hand theres no chance it's anything else, I won't waste any time and I'll make a start lifting it
Any experience would be welcome...

My R1 engine started jumping out of 2nd under power. It was worn dogs causing it to jump, caused by a bent selector fork not engaging the dogs fully.
I'm told it is a common cause of failure.

Is it such a big job to get the thing out?

Colin, its highly unlikely that it's anything else other than the dogs on the gears. Taking the engine out and splitting the cases may seem
daunting at first but it's quite straightforward and relatively easy. If you have the parts to hand it can be completed within a day.
You can still drive it around. Just remember to short shift through 4th gear.

It's not really daunting, just a bit of a pain and If I could avoid I would, just looking for confirmation really of what I know is probably
inevitable!
As you say you can manage without 4th on the road, though it's put paid I think to any chances of a track day this weekend 
If I have to have the engine out, I think I'll invest in a TRT prop at the same time as I'm sure it would protect the new box from my
rough driving
Might have to do a wanted post!!
