Tailpipe Angle for lowest noise readings

Morning All

One job left to do on my car is to have the tailpipe welded to the silencer. I vaguely remember something about there being an optimal angle in relation to the road for minimal noise. Can anyone clarify?

Thanks

TC

Straight up into the sky is the quietest, pointing at the ground beginning the loudest so I guess its halfway.

you could always point it at a cunningly placed fireblanket, that would take some of the energy out of it or for the test just add another can or a huge production car one, he won't fail you for the exhaust looking ugly.

Agree with above. I tested 90 degrees, 45 degrees and pointing down to the road at the SVA and 90 was about the best, definately went up a lot when pointed straight down.

I thought mine was very loud - pointed out at about 80 degrees on the horizontal planr and down by about 30 degrees vertical plane....

But it passed the SVA sound test easily - admittedly it's a cra engine but it sounded DAMN loud to me - certainly louder than most other CEC's I have seen!

Can anyone remind me of the test procedure?

If I remember correctly, the guy had a tripod, to which he fixed the sound meter sitting horizontally, this was then located from the tailpipe of the car using an MDF template, which looked about 1m long and about 30 degrees from the back of the car?

I guess it's detailed in the manual, but I can't access my copy at the minute.
