ive put cooling piping round the track rod ends to cover the sharp edges, will it pass?

All depends on the tester, some will, some wont.

Mine failed on that.... But my tester was so far up his own arse he could lick his own colon...
Get some nice "cable glands" from your electical wholesaler...slip them over...they look proffesional....
