Difference between Mondeo and Focus blacktop?!?

Can anyone tell me the difference between a Mondeo and Focus Zetec 2.0 blacktop? I know there are differences, but I don't know what they are, and if they are of influence on which one is preferable. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Cheers,
Marcel

AFAIK, the block head oil pump water pump etc are the same, the sump, inlet and exhaust manifolds differ. I do know the sump on the focus would have the well at the back in a rwd application, not sure about the Mondy.
Rgds.
Pete.

I think r1_pete is right. I had a Focus 1.8 engine in mine and now have a Mondeo 2.0. It was a straight swap.

The sumps look the same and are certainly interchangeable.

Pretty sure the sump is the same.

Don't know about the inlet/exhaust manifolds, but the mounting faces are the same.

Well, I've been offered an apparently new (Mondeo?) blacktop engine. But the camcover looks different to all the blacktops I've seen over the years; there are 3 holes on either side of the spark plug leads (in the high sections of the camcover). I've never seen it. (maybe for mounting some kind of cover over the leads?) The camcover itself is smoothed and primered, so I can't tell which logo's were on there. That makes me a bit uncertain; if that's different, then what else can be different (inside).
I'm confident that it is a blacktop though (looking at waterpump, sump, oilfilter). It has a cast exhaust manifold (I've seen that before on blacktops). Cambelt cover is also different than the ones I know on blacktops.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have an engine number (which is common in new exchange engines, as I understand), so that doesn't help me to find more info.

It's 250 notes cheaper than the new (Focus?) blacktop that is advertised everywhere.

I've a Mondeo blacktop in mine.

Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary involved in fitting it.

I noticed as well my ST170, which is a blacktop but very late, well after production for the Mondeo ceased has a different block, not radically different just some of the M10 threaded holes missing/in different places.

Here they are; see the holes besides the plug leads. I've never seen those on any zetec. Also, the top cover of the cambelt is ending on top of the camcover.

Dunno what the holes in the cam cover are for but other than that it looks like a normal blacktop to me.

not quite the same as yours but may account for some of the holes. Rescued attachment rocker cover clips for loco.JPG

That cam cover looks remarkably like a silver top, why would you prime a plastic cover? the silver top is ally.
From what I can see the sump looks like an escort silvertop sump as well, but they will fit on a blacktop
