LPG v8 or big diesel range rover wanted

Due to new business, I now need a budget heavy duty tow vehicle (got to get all legal and stuff now really!! )

I am looking for either a 3.9v8i rangey classic, converted to lpg, or a big jap diesel conversion, like a 4 ltr isuzu or 3.0 mazda etc.

To be honest I think the lpg v8 prob wins, similar cost to run and much more grunt.

Anybody?

PS budget is low, anywhere from £750 to £1400 but really the bottom end of that.

PS PS can swap/PX a 1996 BMW 525 TDS estate, manual box, silver, towbar, tough old bus, on 17" Alpina wheels, cosmetically not the best but not bad, plenty worse out there, 140,000 miles.

Used to have the 4.6 v8 converted to LPG was great bit gutsy towing on gas but hey who cares. Watch - at about 90,000 lots seem to have head and pores bore problems look for a "re-engined" one if possible.

L/R diesel engined Range Rovers (2.5's) are crap so I have been told. and as for the L/R Disco 2.5 TD5 Auto (lol) i't couldn;t pull itself let alone a trailer.

cheers for the pointer,

Yep, my thoughts on the various L/R diesels, my rice pudding will certainly not have to worry about losing its skin if I get one of those! Couldn't quite believe the 111hp when I read it, especially as landy types call them "quick" I think my BMW 525 tds is very slow and that has 148hp and weighs a lot less!!

I saw a nice one with a 4 ltr isuzu turbo in it but it was sold before I got there and there is one on ebay now buts its dog rough.

In terms of v8's, I'm looking at classics so not too bad engine wise, seems to be the p38 later engines that had all the casting gremlins (nearly all of em it seems)
