Quick Flash

I have just been messing with my indicators and hazards, which I failed to get going for my SVA test.

It would appear that the wiring is ok and after messing with the flasher relay the hazards are now working perfectly.

The indicators are switching okay to the relevant side but they are flashing too quickly (about double normal speed).

It has a 42/98W flasher unit on it. Does this unit automatically compensate for the current being drawn?

Is this simply a new flasher unit needed? or is there some other problem?

Any thoughts, please?

Neil

Are all your indicators wired in? When I first tested mine I was only testing two and they went fast, when all 6 were wired in they went at the right speed

They're all filament bulbs. All six are flashing plus the dash light. They flash quickly when they are running one side or the other ie 3 bulbs.

AS Mr Howlor has hinted at, the flasher unit needs it's full load of 3 bulbs of the proper wattage.

I lots of problems with mine doing the same thing as yours till I discovered that the bike indicators on the front has something like 6W bulbs in them instead of 21W ones. Changed them and it all worked ok.

Cheers

mine flash a wee bit fast, but they go to normal speed when the hazards are on.

I think it sounds as though the flasher relay is wired wrong. It could be that the indicators are using the 98W side.

If nobody else helps in the meantime can you post a quick diagram of how you have it all wired? It may shed some more light on it. Pardon the pun!

Well at least they are working albeit at the wrong speed so as said above you need to check you have the correct loading to make sure it flashes at the correct speed. Also check you ain't got a 6 volt unit or a 24 volt unit which would also give a speed problem.

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

I hadn't thought about that. I have bike indicators on the front I just assumed they were 21W, I'll check them.

Cheers

That's probably it. The bulbs in the front are 10W.

Thanks for the help
