Sky HD

I'm moving house and currently have a regular sky plus account.

In the new place all the correct lnbs are already installed and I have a skyHD box from my parents recently cancelled account.

1. how much are sky going to charge me for moving house

2. how much are sky going to try and charge me to upgrade to HD and use all my own kit (excluding the standard monthly rate for HD)

Anyone know?

I wouldn't have thought they should charge you anything. Just inform them that you have changed address and that you don't need them to come and set it up because the dish etc is already there.

If you're married or living with girlfriend, cancel your current account and set a new one up in her name.

they wont need to come and install it for you as the co-ax cables just connect on an F connector (or 2 F connectors if sky +) to your sky box like they would on any other sky box. its a 5 minute DIY job. the HD subscription is £10 per month on my instsallation. if you need any help with anything u2u me. you can slso use the HD box as a standard box with no extra fee and you get twice the storage capacity on the hard drive.

When I moved to sheffield they came round and installed a dish for nothing. Couldnt beleive it really.

Then when I moved to a new flat all the lnb plugs were there so just took my box and told them I was moving.

If you have the HD equipment you should just have to pay the £10 a month extra for the channels.

Do you get free sat with a Sky HD box without a subscription?

You can get freeview through a sky box..

However what I'd like to know is if you have a box from a recently cancelled subscription can you still watch things you recorded while the sub was still active?

Just a quick question on this subject.

If I upgrade from Sky Plus to Hd, is there anyway of transferring the things stored on the Hard drive of the plus box??

I suppose if you're that way inclined you could remove the old hard drive and copy it via a pc... for those that don't care about warranties!

It's not possible to migrate recordings as far as I know, as the Sky boxes uses a proprietry file system incompatible with a PC.

As for Sky HD, tell them you're moving to an area with cable (give a fake post code if needs be) and that you'd like to cancel as they've offered you a free HD box.

Having said that though, if you have the box, I believe you can just ring up and ask them to add the HD to your card. I discussed this option with them a few weeks back when I pointed out that the boxes go for only ~£5 more than their 'box and installation' price on eBay, and by doing it that way I'd skip the waiting list. The chap told me I could just plug the card in and then ring them for the upgrade.
