i only read the first paragraph, but seems about right to me too. there shouldn't be any bonuses for the bosses (i still beleive branch level
staff, call centre staff etc should get theirs, as its not their fault, and they've got bills to pay too, and many rely on that bonus every
year) at all til all the government money is paid back. our taxes definitely SHOUDN'T be going up to pay for government debt, i think they call
it. isn't that why fuel duty's going up again?

The Xmas No1 campaign didn't carry a threat of jail though!
I agree entirely with what he's saying about the bankers bonuseseseseses, but he will not get the level of support required to make the
necessary statement. This is one of those ' we-all-stand-together' issues and our society doesn't have the required cojones for
it!
Having said that, if we all did withhold our taxes, then I'm sure even that small blip of non-income could sink the country!
It's Evolution Baby!

Ah Billy Bragg, another champagne scocialist. When any goverment starts to form policies based on what people like him say we really are in deep
trouble. The bankers were used as symbol by the goverment to shift the blame for the crap we got into. Yes there was a problem but it was made worse
by lax regulation, which allowed the banks to have too little ready cash, and in the Case of LLoyds becasue the goverment almost forced them to take
on another debt riddled bank.
When the truth about this all comes out in some years time you will see what happened.

ok lets stop talking about 'them' and talk about a person and see where it gets us.
'Tom' works for a bank. Has done for the last 10 years and during that time he's got a lot of promotions. Last year he did really
well and got a million pound bonus. Tom is 'da man'.
Tom works for RBS. he's told this year he's not getting a bonus. He's worked just as hard, he's made just as much profit as
last year but he's not getting his contractually agreed bonus. What is Tom going to do?
Tell you what, change the name 'Tom' to your name and put the bonus at thousand pounds.
Now imagine Tom gets an offer / sees an advert to go work for ABC company. Same terms and conditions but this year they paid out their bonus. What do
you expect Tom to do? Seriously would you hang around?
All the good employees now leave RBS .... all thats left if the dross in every organisation. Bank makes sod all money by comparison to its peers and
our investment goes down the swanny.
My tax money paid for that sodding bank. I want it to be as efficient and profitable as possible. I want my tax payers money back - the only way
thats going to happen is if its sold. No one will buy a lemon for what we paid for it with our tax payers money. Give Tom his bonus, let the bank make
money, get it sold and in the mean time REGULATE EVERY BANK NOT CRIPPLE JUST ONE.

Indeed. Vilifying bankers is just a way for lazy politicians to avoid dealing with the underlying structural issues (i.e. lack of regulation, laissez
faire attitude to risk and an unwillingness to take charge) and take any resonsibility for their role in the whole disaster.
If bankers being paid huge bonuses (for, in most years, making vast sums of money for their employers and hence for our pension funds, investments and
tax take) is so utterly indefensible, why wasn't anything done about it earlier?

I know when my company doesn't make much money, I take LESS. The problem is that in our society (if I may generalise a bit), when you own or run
a business, you are supposed to pay yourself FIRST, even if there is no money. You are just supposed to borrow anything you need. A total idiot can
see problems with this idea.

Lloyds TSB where OK until Darling forced them to buy HBOS and now they are in the toilet financially (as is my Wife's pension having worked for
them for 19 years).
The whole issue around the banks comes back to Gordo de-regulating them. So the whole thing finds it way back to Blair & Brown.
The other thing that is forgotten is that 50% of all of these bonus payments go to the treasury any way.....if only in theory ! The more money you
have the easier it is to keep it out of the hands of HMRC, just ask my friend who paid £1.5 Million for a house in the UK and paid nothing for stamp
duty.
