Hmmm.... what a cool idea for a project..... writing the software and designing a control interface would be... um.. interesting!!

Would make an amazing 3d prototyping system if you could layer up the cube at a reasonable resolution.....
Make trying to explain assemblies to muppets a bit easier

imagine a club where the tables are made of these, and do stuff in time to the tunes, or a dance floor about a foot deep, with all this going on
underneath! awesomewonder how you go about programming that?
