Flywheel mix 'n match
I want to put a RWD auto box on a FWD engine. I've got the flywheel from the engine which I want to keep the starter gear ring from (which
I've popped off after heating), and I want to put this on a scratch made flywheel (or whatever the auto equivalent of a flywheel is, they are
much thinner about 2-3mm) Any ideas where can I get this made so I have a new flywheel with the crank bolt pattern from the engine flywheel, starter
ring gear from the engine flywheel, and the four bolt holes that hold the torque converter on (see second pic) Also are starter ring gears iron or
steel?
Flywheel
Auto flywheel
I've got a drill press so maybe I could just get a laser cut 3mm circle and weld on the starter ring gear? (just read online they are steel)
cheers!

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

yeah would be $w££t getting the ring gear cut too would cost a fair whack, plus that's like 5 or 6mm steel, the rest only needs to be 3mm ^_^

Never heard of an Car engine that Does Not have an autobox variant /option..somewhere.
It's fairly easy/ cheap to simply buy from a wreckers' an appropriate Flexplate (the part you are talking about cobbling together )
OR in the very least, one you could alter to fit

I'm just doing the same and getting a new flywheel made up to suit the old ring gear.
You can get the gear machined into the flywheel, but that's much more expensive.
I'm having mine done by Rakeway, who have been very helpful, if a little slow getting started.
TTV also do them and were helpful by email, worth a try.
There's Arrow as well, but they quoted me £1500 so I didn't go any further!
Apparently a popular thing is to take the flexplate and make up a button flywheel which sits on it just to provide a surface for the clutch -
apparently this is very cost-effective and good for weight reduction.
Watch out for balancing as well, I'm going to need a rebalance of the whole bottom end because the standard flywheel is off-balance
