Possibly buying a Nissan Primera- opinions
So, finally started a new job! It's about 7 miles to work so not too bad.
However now the weather is wet as a wet thing I not enjoying using the Locost.
I'm after something in a relative hurry. I have been offered a Nissan Primera. Estate model.
'W' reg so about 2000. Estate model, has done 96,500miles. 2.0 DOHC.
On the bad side:
It's got 2 rust patches/bubbles around the drivers wing, will need sorting soon I guess. The exhaust is blowing from the back box. Some damage
to rear bumper.
On the good side
Loads of history/servicing/receipts. The interior is immaculate. It appears to run well with no obvious problems. Serviced recently. Tax until
April/May.
He wants £800
It's clearly not a sexy/fun car! But then I have the Locost for that. I will be useful to have the Estate and roof bars etc. for DIY and the
like.
I haven't checked insurance prices yet so that may kill it but I would like to know opinions/experiences!
Thanks!
James

Depends how much £800 is to you and how you value your time. Sounds reasonable, but I'm sure you could do better if you keep looking unless
it's got some decent Mot on it. Blowing exhaust is an MOT failiure is it not? I'd want at least 6 month on a car I knew would fail on
something like that.
That said though, a good tax disk on it, worth about £100 itself. They're not bad cars, my dads mate has one he's had for years with about
250K on it and my dad has run his nissan for 3 years without a service and done about 60K in that time with no problems.

My dear dad bought one from auction at 2 years old in 1998 (it was a P plater) with 60K.
He owned it for 10 years.
Annual oil change
1 set of plugs at 100K or so. Changed the air filter at 110K as it failed the MoT on emissions. It was past its best! did the lambda sensor at the
same time. A few months later it needed a battery.
Obviously a few tyres, brakes and so on, and a few things stopped working, nothing he worried about. It also had several parking knocks/bumps.
Still going strong when sold on at 130K, I would have driven anywhere in it.......
Yes, nothing to get excited about (but it was quick when first bought) but reliable as anything.

Due to fuel and insurance costs nobody wants old 2 litre petrol cars , even with a full years MOT I would put its' worth about
£500

I have just changed cars from my old faithful Nissan Primera estate. 03 p12 model.
It has been ultra reliable and now has 190,000 on the clock, The only thing that failed was the starter motor and now there is a problem with the
wiper motor, I ran it from 55,000 miles.
I still have it here if anyone needs a cheap diesel estate with MOT and tax on the window till Jan .
£850 any-one?.
Regards Denis.
Edit to say it has 4 recent new tyres , and is fitted with towing gear.

overpriced, to old and worth nowt, well £350 maybe if you can find a buyer!
I paid £1000 for a 52 plate v40 diesel in good condition that returns 43mpg.
You would very quickly pay back the difference in fuel on something much better.

Sounds a lot of money to me for something like that - particularly as it needs work.

that seems very expensive for a car with such a high mileage and not even good bodywork
nissans around that time did not have very good bodywork protection underneith, my Almera is a right state and now scrap with holes in the chassis
despite looking quite tidy
my nissan bluebird was £750 with 27k on the clock and no rust anywhere

I recon that's too much for a petrol. I had a p11 and P12 - both diesels and worked the nuts off them both towing.
Unsexy but super reliable and comfortable.
Old duffers tend to have them and look after them ...they still turn up for £600 quid or so with quite low mileage.
Wonky widscreen wiper pinions are the common failing but not the end of the world.

Quite, but the ones that I have seen, (taxi's), have all been diesels, our local firm runs several of them. Cheers Ray
