Sygate Firewall (Free Version)

Was going to upgrade to Pro but got taken to a link - which states Sygate has been bought out by Symantec... poo!!!

Now I need to find a firewall which will allow IP addresses through (bluetooth network) FREE without registering... BritishTrident, do you know of any?

Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5

They have released a newer version: 4.0 but its bloated and resource hungry compared to 2.1.5.)

Get it HERE

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a
car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

find yourself an old Pc and download IPCop (its a smoothwall variant) very easy to set up and very managable.

i use it. It seems pretty secure as a 'install and forget' product on a standalone machine, but if you ever want to configure it to do anything specific (like allow certain IP's access..) it wont let you - you have to upgrade to the non-free one.... (unless im missing something)
so if youve got a home network that shares files and printers, forget it!

MrG - had Kerio PF but it is very restricting with regard to networks unless you pay for it. I removed that some time ago and replaced with Sygate which is sufficient but still restrictive to networks. I have released my laptop IP and gateway addresses but it still blocks it - without 'allowing all' it won't connect. As soon as I drop the firewall all is fine. Any more advice from you guys? Apart from buying an upgrade that is?

Kerio Ver 2.15 is completely free for private use later versions are best avoided.

For a pro or semi-serious network an old 586 computer running IP Cop is the dogs danglers, once set up it dosen't need a keyboard or monitor.

Latest problem,

After uninstalling Sygate and installing Kerio 2.15 computer would not boot into windows... would not give me user accounts and mouse and keyboard failed to install.

Opted for reboot from last successful boot and tried running Kerio Engine... got an error

Unable to init FwDrv driver: 2

Unistalled Kerio and reinstalled with no luck - I'm in your hands any advice would be most welcome.

As I have wireless mouse and keyboard am I right in suspecting that Kerio is blocking the USB ports before I can log on?

Can I correct this?
